I’m trying to write a fiction book (not publish it), any good tips?
Cherrrrrrr101 asked:
OK, so I might not be that old yet but I’m writing a book just for the fun of it, you know, see how it turns out. I just need a few tips to help polish what I’ve written so far. It can be about anything - planning, writing, thinking, whatevs - and if you want to be the one with the best answer the tip(s) should be easy-to-remember, not necessarily “quick” but clear and understandable. Thx =)

Geez…All you want is a “brief” College Level Education from Answers! Take a writting Class at a local City College!
I can’t help you fix what you’ve already written without reading it - your best bet is to let people read what you’ve done so far. Have them be honest with you, so give it to people whose criticism you can handle.
I’ve written two (not-very-good) novels so far under the National Novel Writing Month program in November for the last two years - visit for details. You can write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days with the help and support of hundreds of other novelists around the world.
If you want a plot that’s going to be extremely successful, write a thing similar to my life story. A story verymuch similar to Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. I’ll tell you.
-Don’t pick the title until after you’ve written it.
-Don’t focus too much on the character’s names because you can always change them.
-Don’t be afraid to go back and re-write but also don’t re-write something a lot in a row….if you can’t get it right stop and go back to it later.
-Try to carry at least notepad and pen or pencil with you all the time because inspiration can hit anytime anywhere.
-it’s not necessary but try to plan at least a little ahead it will pay off big when you have a writers block and will make the process easier all over.
-Re-read so you don’t forget any details and contradict yourself later.
you should write things you remember from dreams you have had
One of my favorite things to do is put myself in my characters shoes.
Or if you hit a writers block, pick up another book, read it, think “what would I do differently”.
It makes for decent entertainment and sharpens your writing skills
