I’d suggest going with a literary agent, but if you decide to go at it on your own, go to your local bookstore and flip to the copyright pages of a couple of romance books. The names of the publishers are on the copyright page. Check out their submissions guidelines (usually a few sample chapters, a synopsis of the book, a cover letter, and a SASE) on their websites and mail away! A lot of publishing houses do not accept unsolicited manuscripts, so don’t get frustrated. I’m not sure about romantic fiction, so that field may be more receptive to submissions. In any case, GOOD LUCK!!

Skoie is right. Get with a literary agent. If you go straight to the publisher your novel might get “accepted” but never see print because of editing, copy rights, or the general feeling that the book would not be a best seller.

A literary agent can help you find a publisher that will seriously take a look at your book for publication.

Or if you’re in the UK, buy the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook for all the advice and contacts you need.

If this is the first thing you’ve written, it’s well worth putting it aside for a while, maybe reading a couple of books about writing novels, then reading it through again with fresh eyes and making sure there’s nothing you want to change. (You may have already done this of course, but I’m just trying to help.) Authors often make second, third, and even more drafts of their manuscript before sending it off, because when a publisher sees it you want to be really sure it’s the best it can be. It also helps to get friends opinions of course!

    Good luck x

If you send it to me I could review it for you before publishing. I own a publishing company so give me an email at and I will help you. Thanks.
