You could always try self-publishing. A lot of books started out that way and got picked up by major publishers. Try looking for some place local, or or

All due respect, but I disagree completely with the person who suggested self-publishing. As someone who works in publishing, agents and publishing houses really look down on self-published works. It’s rare for them to get picked up by a major house.

You need to do some research into literary agencies and figure out who are some good agents who focus on your genre. Then, send a query letter, a properly formatted manuscript, and a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope). Do NOT send your unsolicited manuscript to a publishing house - most publishing houses, especially big ones, throw unsolicited manuscripts straight into the slush pile. Try to get an agent and then see where it goes.

From what I’ve heard, it’s much easier to get an agent to read your work if you speak to them personally at a writer’s conference. Find an agent who’s reliable, make sure that they’re interested in the kind of story you’re trying to sell, and format your query letter to their particular preferences. If you do get a publisher to print your stuff without an agent, beware. Any publisher who charges you a fee for publishing should be tickled to death. Real publishers make money by selling books, fake publishers make money by charging new authors.
Obvious if you self-publish you’ll have to pay…

If you are looking for self-publishing companies to publish your book, I know of a few companies that practically holds court to everything a book needs from getting you your copyright, book cover design customization, layout consultation, copyediting and even marketing – at affordable costs.

Xlibris is one of those companies that cater to practically all book requirements. You are free to send your materials through email (which is of course faster) or snail mail. Soft copies are better than hard copies for you to at least have the originals just in case you might need more of those. Bottomline, you can send in your materials on ways that works for you because you will be assigned to a production team who will take care of those.

You will have absolute control of everything that will transpire WHILE your book is still under production – be the editor, illustrator, book designer – supervise the entire thing, even!
