   One of the first things that you want to do is to copyright the book so that none of the characters or plots are taken from you then you can do as the other person suggests or you can simply look at some of the more famous mystery books on the market and send a copy of your work to the publishing depts. asking them to take a look at the book and let you know if they might be interested in publishing it.

   While your looking, check out any publisher or agent on the preditors & editors website. They keep an extensive list, and include warnings on those who other authors have had problems with.

   And you do not have to copyright your work first. It is already protected and copyrighting it before sending it out to a reputable publisher or agent is considered amature.
