How do you find a reputable book agent to help publish your manuscript?

vanity planning asked:

Im looking to publish a fiction novel in a specific genre. I have already written the manuscript, I just want to know how I can complete my first step to publishing with a reputable agent that will find publishers interested in my genre of fiction. Any ideas? I googled, but it just seems unhelpful. Any ideas/ranges/ball park figures on costs?

Theres a book called Literary Market Place. That’ll help you get started.

This is getting really really boring. Have you considered checking some of the Resolved Questions. Ive answered this one about 40 times this week. 1) Buy yourself a copy of Writers Market 2) Learn how to write a good query letter 3) Read through the list of agents for agents reading things of your genre 4) Check Preditors and Editors and Absolute
Write Water Cooler’s Backgrounds and Bewares to make sure the agent is legit. 5) Send the query letter 6) Wait for the rejection letter. 7) Send to another agent. LEGITIMATE AGENTS DO NOT CHARGE READING FEES OR REPRESENTATION FEES. They only charge fees for copying manuscripts, mailing etc. PLEASE read some of the Resolved Questions. That’s what they are there for. C.

Buy a copy of the book The Writer’s Market.

It lists names and addresses of Literary Agencies and Publishers.
